The Black Phone Horror
Scott Derrickson's claustrophobic thriller holds up well without requiring a follow-up. Located in 1978 Denver, multiple child abductions has left the local kids on edge. However, the non-functional line on the wall repeatedly calls, with ghostly voices giving advice, while the prescient dreams of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. A solid creepfest. The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the struggle between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for materialism in Showalter's delightfully tacky biopic about the fallen TV preacher and her criminal husband. The actor plays the greedy Jim, who declares early on, “God does not want us to be poor,”. The couple set about profiting from the people's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, excessive cosmetics and bad faith, however Chastain succeeds to depict Tammy Faye in a likable light. October 14th, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
